Os52 reluctant to start, rpm drops then quits.

by Rob

Hi, I have an OS52 surpass which will only start after LOTS of priming after which fuel pours from the carburettor. When the engine does start the rpm is not stable and tends to drop even at full throttle until the engine just quits.

I'm not hugely experienced with glow engines but have followed the manufacturer's instructions to start it - I don't know if the fuel leaking from the carb after priming is this normal or not? The engine is used but doesn't appear to be overly worn.

The revs also drop when I remove the fglow plug clip, i do leave it on for a bit to allow the engine to warm up but this doesn't seem to make much difference.
Many thanks,
Rob

Engine rpm dropping at removal of glow igniter is not normal. Fuel leaking from the engine is not normal. Sounds like this is a highly used/abused engine that needs to be taken apart and cleaned, possibly replace gaskets and/or bearings.

I had the same symptoms as you described with an os fs.52s
turned out that: the low speed needle was flush with the carburator body (way too rich!) and needed to screw in exactly one turn from that flush-position.
Just as the manual describes to re-align the low speed needle.
It worked right away..
For me it was not that bad because I was just breakin' in this beast... :)
