Battery for 50lb electric plane

by hunter
(charleston, sc)

I am putting together a plane that will be roughly 50lb and need to find a motor esc and battery pack to power it. I have to use NiMh batteries which is my issue. Having the batteries supply enough power without having 30lbs of batteries. What would you suggest?

Outdated Electric setup

Using NiMh for an electric setup is outdated technology. With the weight of the aircraft you are suggesting, you should look at gasoline power. Your propulsion setup (engine, prop, and rx power, etc...) will depend on the type of flying you will be doing as well as the weight. I use NiMh for flight packs in my nitro powered planes (48-65" wingspan, weighing up to 12 lbs). The pack in these planes power the RX and servos.
