Webra .35 - mid throttle problem

Hello, I know this is a site for planes, but how much diffent can a heli problem be?

I have a Webra .35 installed in a heli. The thing has been running fine for the last year. I was out flying the other a day and a new problem arose.

I was up about 30 ft and could hear the engine loosing rpm. I also noticed that the exhaust smoke had all but disappeared, so I brought it in for a landing, at which point it stalled.

I made a small needle adjustment and took off again. This time with in a matter of a minute it died completely in air at the same throttle position.

Nothing has been changed in my set up, so I started thinking that something was clogging the fuel line. I found some small junk, but nothing major.

Last night I tried to make some adjustments on the ground, but I'm having the same issues. I can get it running very well at idle, it will increase in speed and power quiet smoothly until about half stick. It seems like it will run at half stick all day, but as soon as i go a little past half stick it dies instantly.

I've tried adjusting both mixture screws and so far have not been able to get any better results. I disassembled the engine last night to look for junk that could be restricting fuel flow, but I didn't see anything noticeable.

One last note.. I was able to get it to the point of running past half stick, but it would again slowly start to loose speed and power and the exhaust smoke would slowly start to go away, as soon as I returned the throttle to idle, it would die.

Any thoughts?

Glow Plug
by: Matt

Funny you should mention the glow plug. I just put this one in before these problems started. Now the engine did run for a few sort flights before the issue started with this new plug, but I will try another one anyway.

Maybe the glow plug?
by: Matt B

Hey Matt,

That sounds like a tuff one.

My first thought was that it's probably too lean since you say it dies instantly past half throttl and it doesn't stumbles etc.. But you said you adjusted the needles with no luck.

Have you tried replacing the glow plug? Some times a bad glow plug can cause some weird things to happen.

I would replace the glow plug and see what happens.
