Tower Hobbies ABC engine dies when I remove glow igniter

by Josh
(San Antonio, TX)

I have a .46 Tower Hobbies ABC engine that I am breaking in. I have got it to run fine when the glow igniter is still attached, but as soon as I remove it it dies.

It seems to run at high rpms whithout the igniter attached, but when I bring the throttle down it sputters and dies.

Glo Engine Shutting Off
by: Rocky

Your other problem might be that your plug is loading up, it happens to me all the time, so don't run it at idle for too long, so make sure to give it full power all the time.

Help with 46 ABC Engine
by: MARSRCFLYER

Hi Josh,

I also agree with the previous comments on a bit too rich or bad plug. (Most likely a bad plug)

Another option to help improve the reliability of the ABC engine is to use a hotter plug. I've used an O.S. A3 plug in mine. Discovered it as a solution to engine stalls in flight at low speeds.

Lastly, if you are using the remote mounted needle valve, watch to see if you are getting bubbles in the gas line between the neadle valve and carb when you rev up the engine. If so, screw the needle valve right into the carb without using the extension. Seems to be a problem with the 2 ABC 46 engines I had.

Hope any of these suggestions help

try leaning the low end needle
by: Matt

Hi Josh,

Your problem is probably one of two things. It is probably either a bad glow plug or the needle settings are too rich.

Since it runs fine at high rpms, then I bet your low speed needle is probably a bit too rich.

Try leaning out the low end needle just a little bit and see if that helps.

Let us know if that helps,

Good luck!

Matt
