super cub LP reciever??

by kyle
(seattle, wa )

So I just bought a Super Cub RC airplane, and as soon as I plug the battery in the motor goes on full bore. Would this be a bad receiver?

I always make sure the transmitter is on and the throttle is off. I plugged it in and held onto it with the motor full bore. I tried the rudders and nothing...

It was like it wasn't getting any signal from the transmitter. What else can i do to test?

Hi Kyle,

That is definitely strange. Most all ESC require you to arm the ESC before the motor will come on.

Usually you just put the throttle to neutral and you will hear a series of beeps while the ESC arms.

Some ESC's require that you go from neutral to full throttle and back to neutral. In any case, the motor should NOT start running until the ESC is armed for obvious safety reasons.

Do you hear the ESC arming? Beeps or anything?

If not, I'd say your receiver is bad.

Did you get the RTF version with the ParkZone radio? Or the BNF version?

Full bore motor problem
by: Bill

I've had this problem myself when I used a receiver I bought on e-bay. You have to go into your radio programming and reverse the throttle.

I'm using a Futaba 7C radio but it's the same procedure as reversing a servo in your radio. My radio calls it throttle (it's abbreviated) but that's what it is.

The first time I tested the receiver on my airplane I had the throttle stick all the way back but it instantly went to full throttle and there was not beeps to warn that the motor was armed. Fortunately the plane was in a cradle but even then I had to react in a flash. :)

I don't think your receiver is bad you just need to reverse that throttle in the radio.

super cub LP reciever??

If you check inside the receiver (you should be able to just pop it open with the tab on the side) Have a look a the battery wires going into the receiver. Look at the black wire, and notice that it goes into the board right beside the black wire going to the motor.

Look on the other side of the board and check to see if the solder points got fused together somehow. They must be separate.

You can check this easily by taking a meter to check for a short. If the solder is joining the two, then take a knife, separate them and clean it out.

Busted Receiver
by: Ron

I had the same problem but all other controls worked fine. Apparently the ESC portion of the circuitry had somehow shorted out and the prop is always at full throttle. I looked inside but don't think I can find the part to replace the ESC outputs. I am planning to get a replecement receiver, probably from eBay. Good luck with your problem.

Full throttle

I also had this problem after it got caught in a tree and stalled the prop while it was still flat out. It ended up melting a transistor inside the reciever which I have put the problem down to. Unfortunately i am having difficulty finding a replacement transistor.

power line interference?
by: Anonymous

My Super Cub LP seems to be very sensitive to power line interference. It seems if I fly within 50ft of the pole or below the power lines, the signal cuts out and the plane falls from the sky.

The range also seems to be significantly less than quoted at 2500ft. This is a fresh on-board battery @12.5v, and fresh AAs in HobbyZone full Spektrum 2.4ghz remote.

Anyone experience similar problems? The maiden flight was cut short when the plane flew over power lines and was lost in a bean field for 48 hrs.

lost signal
by: Anonymous

I had a signal loss on my first flight but I was able to recover and fly it back. It got me so nervous I decided to call it a day.

Now it did it again but it's up in a tree now. I'm trying to figure out how to get it down now.

This was the second flight and it was really good. I was flying a race track pattern in a small field for about 8 minutes and turned to bring in so I could check the battery level.

I started the left turn then just leveled out. I tried to turn it again and it wouldn't respond. Then turned left then I was able to get control but it was to late into the tall ass tree it goes.

I used to Google Earth to figure out the distance I lost signal and its about 470-480 ft. I actually lost signal at about 450ft.

I had to antenna at 90 of the plane and it was pulled all the way out.
