Spektrum DX8 Battery Charging Question...

by Robbie
(South Austraila )

Hi my name is Robbie.

A big G'day to all the girls and guys in the r.c world.

Ok, My question is about charging the Spektrum DX8. The manual does not tell you when it's fully charged. The battery bar indicator is only showing 75%. What's the end voltage when fully charged?

Mine is reading 5.6V. Is that fully charged?

How long will it last for? Also, why can you not use AA battery like you can with the Spektrum
DX6i.

I am from Adelaide South Australia. Today is Sunday and it's my very first flight at the Holdfast flying club in Adelaide.

I also went out and got myself a pulse XT 40 with a racing motor wicked. I have not been flying for over 20 years so they have awesome instructors and buddy up , so I will be fine I think.

I rather do it the right way, Or come home in tears after totally drilling into earth, ha ha like total right off, no way!

So small steps but the right steps.

I am also using the DUAL SKY 4000 18.5 V too run this wicked plane.

Kindest regards.

Dead cell? Dead charger?
by: Mike from Dubbo, NSW

G'day

Sounds like some thing is wrong with the battery. But first a couple of questions.

How many cells in the battery pack? Most radios have eight which gives a nominal rating of the battery as 9.6 Volt. But, some of the more recent ones use 6 cells which gives a nominal rating of 7.2 volts.

NiCd and NiMh cells are fully charged at about 1.4 volts so if your pack is 6 cells it should be about 8.4. This will drop a bit after the charger is removed.

A friend recently bought some new radio gear and the receiver battery had one dead cell. You may have a similar problem.

I'd suggest you speak to someone who knows these things at a club and have them check things out.

As for why you cannot use loose cells, welded packs are safer. You don't get dirty connections and as a result they are safer and last longer.

If you need a replacement pack, the Sanyo Eneloop cells are really excellent and packs are available for the common radios. I bought a 6 cell Eneloop pack from Duanes Planes last night. The pack supplied with the radio is OK but not great. Eneloops self discharge very slowly so that after several years they still hold 80% of their full charge.

And, it is always best to slowly charge your Tx and Rx packs. Fast charging does not always work with the cells used with radios. I always just use the charger that comes with the radio and leave it on overnight.

Have fun

If it's the same as my Spektrum DX6i then you have 4 AA's in it.

In which case 5.6V is good.

Battery Charge Indicator DX8
by: Creative RC

When the DX8 battery charge shows about 75% for a fully charged four cel NiMh at 5.6 volts it is normal. The battery indicator will only show full if you are using the 2S Lipo battery which when fully charge will be at approx. 8.3 Volts
