RC Flying Clubs

What exactly are RC flying clubs? I am looking for opinions on whether or not it would be worth my time to join such a club.

Please share some of your experiences regarding joining a flying club. Is it good idea?. Bad Idea?

I'm meeting with a bunch tomorrow from the local RC flying clubs and would like some input from the people here who probably have many experiences with these associations.

I grew up at local RC flying clubs. Until recently that was my only experience with flying RC airlanes.

At the club there's so many people willing to help you if you get in trouble. Not only that, most are AMA sanctioned, so you have some coverage if something bad should happen.

And most of the fun is just the general chit chat between flights, getting pointers from more experienced flyers. And it's awesome seeing tons of different model aircraft anytime you go.

My experience flying solo at the local park is that you get a lot of flying in, but there's no one to share the experience with.

Well, there's people with 0 experience that ask lots of questions which is good, but no one to help you if you get in trouble.

Should I join an rc flying club>

Short answer, YES! You will definitely not regret joining a club.

At a club you know you are able to fly there any time you want. As with any groupe, there will always be a "know it all", but there will also be tons of people to help you out and have a good o'le time with.

Better in than out.

G'day

I have been a member of four RC flying clubs since I started flying control line when I was about 11 a long time ago.

When I wanted to learn to fly RC, I joined a second club and since then I have moved several times and each time have joined a new club.

The upside is simple.

1. People to talk to. "Armchair flying".
2. Help and advice when you need it.
3. You can help people too and this is fun.
4. Safety in flying with people who have a safety culture and of course insurance.
5. Ideas. You will find lots of good ones.
6. And the big one for newbies, help in learning to fly without killing lots of models.

The down side.

1. It costs a bit.
2. You will have to obey some rules.
3. Less freedom than just flying on your own.

But frankly, the upside of joining RC flying clubs greatly outweighs the downside.

So join up. I am sure you will enjoy it. I have been since 1960.
