RC Airplane Engine Starts in Reverse

by pkdann

I have the evolution .46 engine and it has taken me forever to break in. The problem now is when I start it, it runs in reverse and moves the plane backwards. It sometimes transition to forward rotation then dies.

What should I do?

Using an electric starter?
by: Matt

Pkdann,

Are you using an electric starter or flipping by hand or chicken stick?

It's not out of the ordinary for an engine to start backwards when flipping by hand. If this is happening most every time, one trick of the trade is to flip it the opposite direction.

Reverse psychology on an engine? Why not? lol. It works!

If you have an electric starter it really shouldn't start backwards unless it's flooded. In other words, you've primed it too much, and there is too much fuel sitting in the engine when you go to start it.

If this is the case, close the throttle or remove the fuel line and let the engine burn all the fuel out of the engine while running backwards, then try to start it again.

Try this to see if it helps. Please let me know because if it don't work, we'll keep on trying until we get'er straightened out. Believe, I know it's no fun having an uncooperative engine when you're itch'n to fly!

Good luck!

Matt
