Propeller flies off of norco .074 engine!!! Help

by Nick
(Parker, AZ)

When I try to start my nitro engine (norco .074, i think) the torqmaster starter fits onto the prop and then it spins the propeller screw right off.

I have tried to tighten it down but it just keeps unscrewing when I try to start it.

Do I need to have a nose cone in order to start my plane? Do I need to tighten the screw more (I dont want to break the screw)?

I got it started the other day, then went to the field to fly and when I put the starter on, before it started the propeller went flying. I am new to this so I have no idea. Please help!!

Sincerely
Nick

Hope this helps...

I had the same problem for a while until someone at the club told me to spin the prop with the starter before you put the glow ignitor on... The problem was a fuel back-up after filling my tank and it causes that... So, try spinning the prop by hand or with your starter a few times before you put the ignitor on to get it started...

Did you flip starter insert around?
by: Matt

Hi Nick,

To be honest, I'm not really familiar with that engine.

So you say it has a prop nut instead of a nose cone?

Are you trying to start it with the side of the insert made for a nose cone?

You may already know this, but I have to ask. Did you know that you can pop the rubber insert out of your starter and turn it around. The other side is made for prop nuts...

Does that help at all?
