Hi,

My friend has a 60 evolution engine and has it mounted sideways on his plane. It fires but after a few minutes it cut of.But when he puts on straight it runs perfect.

Why? He wants it sideways so he doesn't have to cut the cowl tou much.

releationship between carb and tank elevation
by: Matt

Since glow engines don't have fuel pumps, they rely on the suction of the engine to pull fuel from the tank to the carb. This is why there is a line from the exhaust to the fuel tank to assist the engine to "suck" fuel from the tank.

By turning the engine sideways, the carb is higher in relationship to the tank, so the engine must "suck" harder in order to get fuel into the carb.

This difference in elevation can usually be accounted for by adjusting the high end valve. As you can see on this page, I had an Evo mounted at 45 degrees on my Skywalker and it ran OK. Perhaps your friend could try mounting at this angle.
