hi, john saunders here.

could you help me i have a showtime rc plane with a nice largish brushless motor, not sure on what type was install when got it.

It has a 30amp speed contoller and runs of 11.1v battery. it goes like a bat out of hell.

i connected a 14.4v battery to it and slowly gained the throttle just over half was it kind chokes/miss fires stops.

why is this would i need to up the speed controller, or do you think the motor just wont take it?

thanks so much for your time

motor still work with 11.1v battery?
by: Matt

I agree that you need to read the specs carefully before connecting a larger battery to an ESC.

That being said, it is not uncommon for an ESC to be rated for a range of voltages. That's why I asked which ESC it was. More than likely a 30 amp ESC is probably rated for up to 4 lipo cells in series which would be 14.8 volts.

Does the motor still work correct when you hooked the 11.1 volt battery back up?

If your plane went like a bat out of hell, then what was the purpose of going with a 14.4 battery?
You just can't do things like that without knowing what you are doing. I'm not an expert but you probably fried the ESC or the motor or both. Go back to the original battery (11.1) and see if the motor runs. If it does, you're very lucky, and if it doesn't then try a new ESC (same amperage)with an 11.1v battery. If the motor still doesn't run, then you learned and expensive lesson (hopefully) but you will need a new motor and ESC and be happy that it goes like a bat out of hell. Most guys would be deleriously happy to have a plane that does that.

What ESC do you have?

Do you have an specs on the ESC? What brand, model etc.?
