Irvine 53 engine slows down when exhaust pressure line is on?

Hi,
Could you help? My Irvine 53 engine runs fine, but when I connect the fuel pressure line to exhaust it slows down and will not reach full revs and it drinks fuel , and has excess smoke. Then when I take the pressure line off it runs fine again.
e willnot reach full revs and drinks fuel,

I have open the exhaust to look in there is a baffle plate very small hole. Could this cause too much pressure?

Maybe a bit rich?

Have you tried leaning the high speed needle? The extra pressure from the exhaust line will force more fuel to to the carb.

It may help if you turn the high speed needle in a bit.
