Glow plug gadget

While watching a fly-in in Los Angeles 30 yrs ago I saw a plane that had a gadget on the glow plug. when the plane slowed to a selected speed this gadget would turn on and make the plug glow hot so the engine would not stall and quit. It had it's own battery. Are these still around and for sale and where?
