Gas sprays everywhere from my RC airplane engine

by Brian Senne
(Streamwood IL)

When I run my plane gas leaks and drips all over and sprays everywhere I think it is coming from the head. The studs are tight the motor is a magnum xl .15

Hi There I had a Mgnum .46xls and found the same issue, I eventually replaced the carb with an OS and problem was solved.

Hope this helps Cheers

Is it still leaking
by: Matt

Did the head stop leaking completely when you put the three holes?

To be honest with you, it should not leak, and that little bit of back pressure is negligible compared to the massive amount of pressure in the head when the engine actually fires. So I can't see how that would make a difference. But.. I've been wrong before.

If it is leaking from the head I would suggest ordering a new gasket kit for it. They are fairly cheap.

There should be a diagram in your owners manual that calls out all the parts. Get the part number and order the kit from where you bought your engine.

Are you sure its coming from the head? Is it possible that it's leaking where the muffler is bolted to the engine? There is also a gasket there that could be leaking. you may want to order one for that as well...

thanks matt

I think it was just oil and unburned gas I put a 1/4 inch pipe off to the side for my exhaust and I could see I coming out at the bottom. I also noticed that it was still leaking from the head. So I put three pin size holes in the fuel pressure line and it let up a bit. Do you think it is possible that there was just way to much pressure? Or do you think the gasket is bad? Thanks Brian

Sure it's not exhaust?
by: Matt

Hi Brian,

Are you new to glow engines? It is normal for a lot of oil and some unburned fuel to spray out the exhaust of glow engines. This is what keeps it cool and lubricated.

This isn't what your talking about?

If it's leaking at the head it could be a bad gasket if all the bolts are tight.

If it's a used engine I suppose it's possible the head is cracked, but that's unlikely.

Does this help?

Matt
