Finally back in the RC airplane hobby

Hello,

I had a few glow powered planes when I was kid...about 15 years ago...
Cox models, which has since gone out of business.

I just purchased a midwest scale Mustang model from a seller on craigslist. I'm looking to get back into flying r/c but don't know where to go from here.

All the models I had as a kid were kits complete with servos...most of which just attach the wing and fly. This is a scale balsa model I am building.

I'd like to convert it to an electric r/c model but don't know where to start. I don't know much about r/c planes anymore (servos, radios, engines, batteries, speed controllers...)

Any help or info you can point me to would be great. I downloaded a bunch of flight simulators and it seems flying has come back to me like riding a bike, with a few more hours on these sims I think i'll be able to handle this warbird no problem!

Hello Jon,

For someone who don't know much about RC airplanes you sure did a good job of listing all the components!

Brushless motors and Lipo batteries have came a long way in the last few years. Reading these pages should bring you up to speed.

Sounds like you are doing the smart thing by practicing with a sim first. But sims don't do a very good job of simulating the adrenaline rush you get when taking up a real plane. For that reason I highly recommend having an experienced pilot by your side with a buddy box during your first flight.
