F4U

F4U "Big Al"

This F4U -1 Corsair was built in memory of my father, Big Al.

It is a Byron Originals kit with digital engine sound ported through a exhast cluster. and digital machine gun that are ported behind the oil coolers.
1/6th Scale
68-1/2” long with a 85” wingspan
This plane has never been flown and probably never will be.

RC FU Corsair

I just wanted to show some detail of the area around the cockpit.

The number on the side just happened to be his birthday and, the pilot labeling was made for me by a local sign shop.

The cockpit is fully detailed and, the pilot is a classic Gijoe in authentic 1942 Marine Corps flight gear.

Very nice!
by: Matt

Wow Pat, that is a nice looking bird. I think I would be afraid to fly it as well. The black and white really makes it look like the real deal.

I take it your father flew one of these during WWII?

Is she electric powered with "digital" engine sounds? Can you tell us more about that? Where did you get such a thing and how realistic does it sound?

Hey Matt

Heres the deal on the motor. I used to race RC cars so, I tore apart a preformance transmition and geared it to 3:1 with a stock racing motor.
The digital sounds are RAM sound moduals ard are installed in a sound manifold that I designed that project the sounds through 1/2 inch nylon hose that lead to each exhast pipe within the cluster.
Because of the design of the manifold the engine sound echos within the enclosures and exits out the pipes that are of a smaller inner diamater causing a very realistic engine sound. The machine guns have their own enlosures with the same design except that the sound is ported though the gull wing behind the oil coolers.

just a note, the pilot is a classic GiJoe in the proper attire for service in the pacific during WWII. :)

F4U paint job
by: Pat

It's a fiberglass fusalage primed w/ auto primer and the top half of the camo-line was painted with Topflight insignia blue lustrecoat.
The primer was such a perfect match for cloud white I, couldnt bring myself to paint over it.
Since this was my first paint job I, thought I did a pretty good job.
