ASP 52 Factory Settings for Low Speed Needle

by g-hon

Hi!,I have a problem and I need your help.

You see, I just purchased an ASP 52 four stroke engine and had some problems with the throttle linkage. It turned out the throttle servo gave way.

After replacing the servo, I had to adjust my end point adjustments for the throttle. So when I unscrewed the throttle lever assembly, the low speed needle which was attached to the assembly came off along with the assembly.

I managed to get everything back in order and now my problem is the low needle adjustment ran out of course. Please tell me how to adjust the low speed needle back to its factory settings.

How many turns out if I screw it in to the end?

Regards,

g-hon

Try 4 turns in from all way out
by: Matt

Hello G-hon,

All engines have different factory settings. If you still have the manual it should tell you how to reset the needle to factory standards.

If I'm not mistaken, the ASP line of engines is the same as the Magnum line of engines.

I did a search for the manual of an OS 52, but couldn't find it. I did find the manuals for the OS 70 and it stated the following.

"To reset the low speed needle valve
screw to the factory setting, follow these procedures:
l Open the carburetor barrel completely.
l While holding the barrel open, turn the needle valve screw OUT
(counter-clockwise) until it stops. From this point, while still holding
the barrel open, turn the needle valve screw IN (clockwise) 4 turns. This
is the factory setting."

Manual for Magnum XL .70RFS

I also found a manual for the OS 80/91 and it said the same thing, except to turn the needle in 4 1/4 turns.
Manual for Magnum XL .80RFS and XL .91RFS

So, I'm going guess that this procedure should be followed with turning the needle in 4 turns, maybe a touch less. Hopefully your manual tells you exactly, but if not I would try that.

I hope this helps. Maybe someone with more knowledge than me can chime in!

Let me know how it turns out.

Hey Gi-hon,

Just wondering if you got your engine lined out.

Let's hope so,

Reseting to factory settings
by: Guedes

Hi Matt,

Maybe it will help. I have some 4-stroke engines, including a OS-FS52 that sometimes puts me in bad mud. (I'll ask for your help in the future)
Here is the link for the OS owners manual:

To reset to factory default:
Hi-speed needle: from fully close open it from 2-2.5 turns.

Lo-speed needle:
Rotate the mixture control valve until its slotted head is flush with the carburetor body. The valve is then screwed in exactly 1 turn to re-establish the original setting.

One very important thing to consider in 4-stroke engines is the regular check and readjust (if necessary) of the clearance of valves.

Sometimes many problems concerning power loss are related with that valve clearances. OS provides a tool set to perform check and adjust.

Regards.

Thanks Guedes!

Very helpful information. I couldn't seem to find a link to this particular manual. Your help is greatly appreciated!
