3 Blade Propeller

Can I put a 3 blade propeller on my new P-51 Mustang?

I would like to thank you for having a wonderful website which gave me so much of valuable information about the RC world. I am new to this hobby and I love the war birds, specially the P 51D Mustang. I live in China, but not a Chinese National and I got a couple of RC helicopters and two RC planes.

Out of the two RC planes, which I bought from the factory directly, the P 51D had some issues, like insufficient details in the instruction manual. I had to spend a lot of time on your website, as well as a couple of other sites, which I must say came in handy.

There were couple of small issues with the Aircraft as well. The canopy could not be opened, since the paint was glued to the frame and I had to use a small knife to cut it open. By doing that, I damaged a little bit of the cockpit.

The spelling of the commemorative Air force sticker, which is under the rudder, was also spelled incorrectly. I informed the factory to correct it and I hope they do correct it when producing the future RC models.

It came with retractable landing gears and the servos were already mounted, which I think is really cool.

In the pic you can see the P 51D MUSTANG EPO and the F4U COUSAIR EPS.

I hope to get more info about the prop, which came with it. It has a number on the propeller 8x3.8, the dia 8 and the pitch is 3.8.

Will I be able to fit 3 blade propeller so that it can fly little slow?

I hope to hear from you soon,

Best regards,

Chanaka.

Sure you can put a 3 blade propeller on your P 51D warbird. As a matter of fact, it will probably go faster!

But this all depends on how long it is. To tell you the truth, a 3.8 pitch is not much at all.

There was no picture of your P 51D warbird that I can see, but I'm guessing it.s a small park flier of some sort.

If it is too fast with the prop you have on there now, chances are that's as about as slow as she's gonna will go...

I guess you could try a longer prop with the same pitch, but that would add strain to the motor which is likely to heat things up a bit, but she might go slower.

All I can say is fly with your throttle stick at a lower position or get a slower flying plane.

You said your new to the hobby, and a mustang is defiantly not a beginner plane.

Good luck
