This thing takes off and flies like a dream but landing is quite a challenge.

Very Nice Will!

I've always wondered how those things fly...

Do you have to keep the airspeed up pretty fast to keep her stable?

I know a lot of people died trying to fly the full scale ones, so they must not be exactly easy to fly!

Yes sir, this is one of those birds that you have to "fly in".

The main reason that you have to keep the airspeed up is really to keep air flowing over the control surfaces - otherwise they become very unresponsive. Its always fun to have a challenge though!
